Our recipe today is made with one of my favorite ingredient. No, it is not the chocolate, Nutella or Ferrero torte. It is the healthy addition to 5 star cookies. So, what is it?
DESCRIPTION
Our healthy recipe today is all about DR. Basil. Yes, my favorite green, healthy, happy and magical BASIL.
The ingredients for this recipe are simple. Basil, spinach, garlic and a few others. Super easy to make as long as you have the food processor.
Again, I can’t explain how much I love, love basil. From the basil tea, basil healthy drink to my favorite homemade basil pesto. I can eat the basil pesto day and night. (just like the Nutella…Yes, I know it is not healthy but our life is too short…)
So, what ingredients do we need to make the basil candy? Check the below or the title called…

EQUIPMENT NEEDED
-food processor
-glass jar
-candy mold

The Best Basil Pesto Bonbons
Ingredients
3 cups fresh basil leaves
4 cups spinach, fresh and organic
9 cloves of garlic
3/4 cup organic olive oil
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
INSTRUCTIONS:
Wash the basil with cold water then dry. (unless you bought pre-washed basil)
Then using your kitchen knife chop the basil, spinach and garlic.
Your next step is to transfer basil, spinach and garlic into the food processor.
Add salt and ground black pepper. (I used 1/4 tsp salt and 1/2 tsp pepper. You can use to your taste)
Close the lid of the food processor and pulse a several times.
While the food processor is running, start adding the organic olive oil while the processor is running.
IMPORTANT NOTE 1: S-L-O-W-L-Y add the olive oil.
IMPORTANT NOTE 2: Occasionally stop to scrap down the sides of your favorite food processor.
Continue processing until all ingredients are well blended.
If desired, you can thin out the pesto with more olive oil. It is really your choice.
So, be sure to taste your basil pesto and add a pinch of salt or pepper if you want to.
Then transfer the mixture into the measuring cup. (I like to use 4 cups measuring cup)
The next step is your choice. (again, you are free…at least with 5 star cookies)
You can transfer basil pesto into the glass jar or you can chose the option 2.(check below)
OPTION 2 – CANDY MOLD FOR BASIL BONBONS
I used pink bonbons candy mold.
Pour the basil pesto into the mold.
Transfer to the freezer until frozen.
Then transfer basil pesto bonbons into a freezer bag.
Enjoy and share.
STORAGE THE BEST BASIL PESTO
In a glass jar in the fridge – Fill a jar to the top. Drizzle a little olive oil over the top and seal closed to keep pesto green. You can store it for about 2 weeks if you continue to cover the top with the best organic olive oil.
Ice cube tray – place basil pesto into ice cube tray and freeze. Then use frozen pesto cubes and store in plastic freezer bags.
Bonbons Candy Mold – pour the basil pesto into to mold. Transfer to the freezer until frozen or for a few hours. Then remove from the mold, wrap each basil bonbons into plastic wrap, then into the freezer bag. You can keep in the freezer for up to 6 months.
Important: Be sure to write the date on the freezer bag.

Quick Note
Basil – I bought organic basil at the local food store. The amount I bought is 3 packages.
Spinach – I used fresh, organic spinach. (PC)
Garlic – I bought organic garlic from the Safeway. BTW, I like to add tons of the garlic into the recipe. If you don’t like you can add only 3 cloves of garlic.
Olive Oil – I used Compliment’s organic olive oil.
Food Processor – My is the best one on the planet from my favorite KitchenAid
Please use the best ingredients you can afford with your budget. Also, be kind and visit your local farmers market. They need your support at this time.
