Sorry guys when I said I’d leave you in suspense I didn’t mean for it take this long! Life has thrown a lot my way since I rang in 2016!
But I will continue where I left off…or not. To be completely honest with you I’m not too terribly motivated to write this.
I much prefer to write fiction, or write about fiction. I like tall tales, making up stories and telling everyone who is willing to listen about all the amazing books
out there and the fact that a lot of these amazing books I read come from home grown talent!
This just thrills me to my core! Prairie authors abound and I don’t want to tell you anymore about myself, other than
I wish to be one someday but am also extraordinarily happy and fulfilled with my career in childcare.
Starting where I am and pursuing my passions from this place is just as thrilling and I want to tell you about these amazing authors.
I don’t want to go back any longer. I just want to move forward! Let’s move forward together!
With that some hilarious things a child in my daycare centre told me today:
It was someone’s birthday, which in world of most children is a BIG DEAL! Then this adorable little guy piped up and said, “My mommy made me have a birthday!” I said “Oh yeah, she made you?” He looked up at me with the funniest angry face ever and said grudgingly “Yes she did!” Okay…he’s an old soul I guess :p
I’ve found that children really like to hear themselves talk and will say anything that comes to mind. One little boy announced to his friends as he was building a Lego house, “I have a penis! And play dough!” Two very important things to a three-year-old boy!
One of the girls is convinced that there is a store in her tummy and when she eats, the food goes shopping for baby stuff…if only I had half that child’simagination…maybe she’ll be the next J.K. Rowling and I can say I was her daycare teacher
I love looking after children. Their imaginations never fail to surprise and amaze me and their (most of the time) sweet gestures that they have no idea mean so much. Like wiping a child’s jacket off when they fell down, older children getting a Kleenex and wiping a younger child’s tears or giving them a hug, or just smiling for no apparent reason. I often try to remember my mind set at that age but it remains one of life’s greatest mysteries. Jesus has told us to be child like in faith, trusting, which goes against everything we are taught as we grow older. But what a lovely way to live don’t you think?
Tomorrow is Miami Open Men’s Final. We are going to see two remarkable players.
1.NOVAK DJOKOVIC
and
2. KEI NISHIKORI
Novak Djokovic with his current aura of gold has lost just one time in Miami since 2010 and has won 55 of his last 57 matches at Masters 1000 events.
This man, a gluten free fanatic,a joker and the most amazing human being is writing history of tennis.
And not just by chasing a very lucky, little, yellow ball but also by representing tennis as a sport.
By having the foundation to help children or by dancing in New York he is with us and we are together in the midst of tennis history….and we are not even aware of it.
Why?
Because there are so many unfairly ifs send towards him and I know when it is all said and done, he will be the greatest the sport has ever seen.
Until then I am making quick, no bake bread called “Oreo in Paris”.

“I Say A Little Prayer”
The moment I wake up
Before I put on my makeup
I say a little pray for you
While combing my hair now
And wondering what dress to wear now
I say a little prayer for youForever and ever, you’ll stay in my heart
And I will love you
Forever and ever, we never will part
Oh, how I love you
Together, forever, that’s how it must be
To live without you
Would only mean heartbreak for me
I run for the bus, dear
While riding I think of us, dear
I say a little prayer for you
At work I just take time
And all through my coffee break time
I say a little prayer for you
Forever and ever, you’ll stay in my heart
And I will love you
Forever and ever we never will part
Oh, how I’ll love you
Together, forever, that’s how it must be
To live without you
Would only mean heartbreak for me
I say a little prayer for you
I say a little prayer for you
My darling, believe me
(Believe me)
For me there is no one but you
Please love me too
(Answer his pray)
And I’m in love with you
(Answer his pray)
Answer my prayer now, babe
(Answer his pray)
Forever and ever, you’ll stay in my heart
And I will love you
Forever and ever we never will part
Oh, how I’ll love you
Together, forever, that’s how it must be
To live without you
Would only mean heartbreak for me
6. All The Pretty Girls – Now I may be a bit bias on this one, Chandra Mayor is my mentor and friend. She is also however, an amazingly talented author that is not afraid to tell it like it is. What I love most about her writing style is that she can tell a tale of utter brutality with beautiful and poetic words. All The Pretty Girls is a collection of short stories about the lives of a group of women. Some are struggling with poverty or domestic abuse. All are struggling with parts of themselves. I loved all these women, cared about their struggles and admired their strength that we would all hope to have in their situations.
7. Lessons From a Nude Man – Now again with the bias, I know this lady and I’m very proud to know this lady. One of my favourite Winnipeg authors and people, I first read her work in Prairie Fire Magazine and immediately wanted more. I searched out her work high and low and was disappointed to find very little else. Until one glorious day she announces that finally a collection of her endlessly entertaining, beautifully written and at times heard breaking short stories will be published for our reading pleasure! Donna is a Boreal writer, choosing the lush landscape of the Boreal Forest for the setting of these stories. Her affection and deep connection of this place can be felt through out this whole book that I couldn’t put down but at the same time never wanted to finish because I didn’t want to leave the exquisite world she created.
8. The Lucky Ones – This is a very serious book but it is an important book that I believe should be on everyone’s must read list especially in the wake of the Syrian refugee crisis. In this book, African refugees recount their experiences of their birth countries and of immigrating to Canada. In their own words they tell of their losses, their hopes and dreams and their new lives in Canada. I feel like I know all these people personally after reading this book and I’m happy they are here.
9. The Day Tripper’s Guide To Manitoba – There is so much to see in our own back yard! Our province is so diverse from the endless prairie that turns to the rolling hills of the Pembina Valley to the lakes and legends of the Interlake. In The Day Tripper’s Guide To Manitoba Bartley Kives shows us all of the cool places to go and things to do in our own province. And trust me, they are plenty.
10. Dance Gladys Dance – This unique and original novel features the ghost of a lady who just wanted to dance. Unfortunately her well to do husband had other ideas. The ghost of Gladys then begins to “haunt” young woman who’s given up on her dream of being an artist. This is a quirky and very enjoyable story with twists and turns and heart ache a plenty along with good humour (the novel won the Stephen Leacock medal for humour) and very real likeable and unique characters. This is definitely worth reading before you die. Or right now because there’s no better time then the present!
Love,
Miranda
“READING GIVES US SOMEPLACE TO GO WHEN WE HAVE TO STAY WHERE WE ARE.”
Dyeing and decorating eggs is an Easter tradition. The fun part is, there are so many ways to do it.
For this post I will select easy and natural way – ONION SKINS.
Yes, we are dyeing Easter eggs naturally with onion skins. My grandmother and my mother made the most beautiful Easter eggs using this method.
Now you can do it too. Just follow instructions below and you will hear comments like: ” Beautiful! Those are the prettiest Easter eggs I’ve ever seen!”
And smile. (because our life is the biggest joke …just watch TV).
Now, let’s do it!
To make this process success we will need the following:
-skin of organic yellow onions
-pantyhose (buy in $ Store)
-pot of boiling water
-vinegar
The eggs will come dark reddish-brown and you will impress your friends, family and your kids.
It is simple, easy and NATURAL!
Onion Skins - Natural Color to Your Easter Eggs
Ingredients
Skin of Organic Onions (between 6 to 10 lbs)
Pantyhose (Dollar Store)
Pot of Boiling Water
1 TBSP Vinegar
20 Eggs
Instructions
Cut about 5 inch sections of the pantyhose (enough to wrap around an egg and make a knot)
Gently wrap the pantyhose over the egg and pull tight to keep it in place and allow dye to soak through. Tie a secure knot in the back.
Fill the pot with water (it must cover the eggs, and place the burner on medium.) and 1 Tbsp vinegar.
Add eggs and when water starts to boil, boil for about 25-30 minutes.
Take eggs out of the pot.
Turn cool water on over them and gently remove the pantyhose.
Rub them with the bacon or with olive oil.
YOU ARE DONE! ENJOY!
If you want to see what you did to poor skin onions…
Or if you want to see dark life of onion skins….look below
I know the picture above is not pretty…but see your final product below. I love my eggs…specially with the glossy finish
I did say, you will hear: “Beautiful! Those are the prettiest Easter eggs I’ve ever seen!”
